Parasport - Track and Soccer

Parasports this month was track.
I wasn't really sure what they were going to do for track.

I have been trying to sit back and let Nick be on his own. Instead of having mom always there to help. So I don't have all kinds of pictures of what he was doing and learning.

But they did have these hurdles that Nick wanted to show me.
He could step on it to get over it.

When I watched him, I asked if he wanted his crutches. So I went out and got his crutches for him.

That pesky left foot had difficulty

Katheryn had fun with the soccer fields.
She kept running back and forth. I timed her, 13 seconds for the length of a soccer field.

She also had another sibling who was there that they played a soccer game together

And she had a great kick!

After a while the other kids got on the soccer field as well.

It is May the 4th today. So Nick had his choke hold all ready!

Nick did have a lot of fun with the soccer. Maybe we will look at doing something in the summer with soccer

Parasports - Curling

Tonights parasport was curling!
The kids came prepared with helmets.

Katheryn knew that she could come with her helmet, but she might not be able to play. She was fine with that. And in the end she was able to play.

Para-curling uses a stick to push the curling rock. So it requires a lot of upper body strength.

And regular curling lets you slide across the ice (not falling down) and push a rock in front of you

In para-curling you don't actually sweep the rock in front of you (so that it goes faster and closer to the bulls eye). But that didn't mean Nick couldn't try this while we were there

They had a lot of fun going up and down the ice (and my feet got my frozen)

The kids got to play a couple of small games as well.

Parasport - Karate

Nick had his first night of Parasports. It is one night a month when PT and OT organize a group of kids to try a different parasport.
We missed the first month, they did wheelchair tennis.
But this month it was karate.

I didn't get to go (I was working), but Kyle and Katheryn went.
Kyle said that this is how Nick spent most of the time

But when I asked Nick about it, he told me that he liked it

They went through a defensive and anti-bullying program.
Nick has been interested in martial arts because Katheryn does it. It would be really interesting if Nick could do it as well!
