Beaver Buggies

It was Beaver Buggy time again!
Nick has really been enjoying Beavers this year

Nick did the whole night with his crutches!
He has been getting so much more comfortable with them. And there was a lot of kids around. He was worried about being bumped into and falling, but he was able to stay on his feet the whole night

And he was all over the place

Nick was also much more involved in the crafts they had than he was last year.

He made a star wars car with a paperclip and some thimble wheels

After the crafts it was time to race
Nicks Buggy is the brown with the blue car, was all ready for the races!

It was also the fastest car!
Nick won ever single race he was in!

It was another fun night at Beavers!

Beaver Buggies

Nick has been in Beavers this year.

The had an event this weekend making beaver cars and racing them down a ramp.
Nick was very excited about his Beaver Buggy.

Katheryn got right into it as well. Getting right in with the other Beavers and making room for Nick in his walker.

They had some crafts for the kids. Nick likes to explore and take his time with the crafts, and Katheryn just jumps right in.

It was fun night for both of them. I sometimes worry about Nick's social activities and friends. Making friends and participating in activities with other kids his age. And hope they are accepting about his walker and being different from the other kids that way.

But it makes me feel better when I actually see Nick out with his friends. Yes everyone still plays by themselves, but Nick is still included in everything. And he wants to be involved in the activities and will be.
Nick is really enjoying Beavers and I'm glad we were able to get him involved.

Scout!

Katheryn has been enjoying Sparks, the first step of Girl Guides.
She has had a lot of fun, selling cookies and playing games. Doing crafts and running around the gym with her friends once a week.

I thought that it would be fun for Nick to do the boy-version of Girl Guides as well. Which is scouts. I contacted them in the summer but didn't hear back from them regarding accessibility and the Beaver program.
OK, I thought, that is my answer.
But they contacted me the middle of September, and after a bit of back and forth we went to try out a night.

Nick had a blast!
There were games and crafts. They had some racing games the scout leader weren't sure he could play. I said that yes he could play and race, he will just be slow.
Nick felt very included. They do some hiking, so we'll see how he does in his wheelchair, but the leaders seem to be very inclusive with what they will do.
And none of the other kids seemed to treat Nick different at all.

So we officially have a Beaver Scout!
Nick is very excited

And if you want some girl guide cookies (mint-chocolate) we have some of that too!

(and popcorn coming soon)
