Easter Seals Day 1

It is Easter Seals Camp day!
This year we have been lucky to be accepted to Easter Seals Family Camp, again. This time we are at Merrywood. This camp is located 3 1/2 hours North East of us, in Perth.
We had to get an early start, and the kids were really excited!

But with a 4 hour car-ride, that excitement didn't last

But we got here!

Merrywood is on a peninsula, so we are surrounded by water. You can see the water from our room

There is lots to do and we went for a tour when we arrived (and unloaded 2 carts worth of stuff).
There are no hills and everything is pretty close together. Our cabin is the Moose cabin. We are the closest to the parking lot. But still close to all of the action.

Nick did the tour with his crutches.

They have a big hall/gym with costumes and karaoke, a craft hut, canoes, sailboats, kayaks, life skills with a kitchenette and a couple of different docks.
There is a grassing knoll and a snake

We made a sign for our family with all of the stuff that we wanted to do. And lots of water

After the tour and unpacking, the kids wanted to go to the pool We did 2 laps before it was time to get out. But the kids were happy with the quick dip.
Then it was time for story time. (Which we missed getting changed). And then Sell the Sizzle. We know Sell the Sizzle from other camps, it is when we find out the activities for the next day. Everything looks like fun. We need to sign up for our activities (and not just show up, like at Woodeden)

Everyone has asked if we've been to camp before. When we said we've been to Woodeden twice, they ask who is better. It is only the first day, but there isn't really a better but a different.

After dinner there was free time to play on the grassing knoll.

For family time, there was an Alice in Wonderland scavenger hunt. With clues for each cabin to do. The councilors really got into it!
It was lots of fun!

Painting the roses red

Having a tea part with the Mad Hatter

Meeting Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

Meeting the Caterpillar

And praying croquet with the Queen of Hearts

In the end the Queen of Hearts was thrown in the lake!

The night ended with a campfire, and Nick was entranced!

We needed to try to figure out where to fit Nick's nightly routine, without having him miss anything fun. There is a teen program (that Katheryn is allowed to do), and so we did Nick's routine then.

I also really wanted to go to the parent program. Which was pottery!
I made an eye ball and I'm excited to see how it turns out!

When I got back, this is how I found the kids, reading with the councilors.
Then it was one more chapter and then bedtime

We were all exhausted!

Meet Chuva

Just after we loss Sammie, we found that Rory's mother may need to be rehomed.
At the time it was not a good time. But Kyle and I talked that if it was an option in 6 months - a year it would actually be a perfect fit for our family (we didn't really want another puppy, but really liked having 2 dogs).
Well, a couple of weeks ago our breeder posted that she was looking to rehome Chuva. Chuva is 4 years old, has had only 1 litter (Rory's litter), she recently got spayed and has a clean bill of health. She is good with children, and is one of the alpha's in the pack (#2 of 7).
Kyle and I talked about it and immediately sent off a message saying we were interested.
And so she is coming for a trial to see how she fits with our family.
We met at the cottage, and she was confused at first, and really didn't want to leave her spot at the front door.
Chuva really bonded with Nickolas.

Rory wants to play, but this is as close as she would let Rory get.

When there was Nick AND food involved, that was when Chuva left the front door to come into the kitchen.

I think that she picked herself a favorite

Bowling with cousins

Nothing like a spur of the moment bowling night!
The boys tried using the force to get more points

Gwenny wanted to help

And Jamie had a blocker

Great time out with the cousins!

Kushog Family Reunion

We had our annual family reunion at Kushog Lake.
It was a smaller group than previous years, but we still had fun!
Of course the first thing everyone wants to do is go in the lake
This has a big and deep lake so Katheryn was going to be able to try out all of her swim gear!
(Even though she doesn't look very happy, it is a "not another picture mom!" look)

Nick is finally cleared for some swimming, so he was all set to go as well!

The water was beautiful and they would spend all day and night in the water
Instead they swam back and forth between our neighbor and our dock

Nick found the flippers to get in the way more than help. So we took off his braces and flippers and he could move around much better

We were camping this year. The kids were really excited to be sleeping in a tent.

I had thought we would all share the big sleeping bag, but Katheryn wanted to be in her own space.
I hadn't brought an air mattress for her, so we ended up with a lounge cushion.

In the morning we had a tent-crasher! Jeremy liked camping
And Katheryn wanted to sleep with Nick and I the second night

Katheryn and I also spent some time Pokémon hunting

Rory found her lounging spot

We went first got to the cottage, Rory liked being on the dock. My father jumped into the lake and either she jumped after him, or she was knocked in. But she ended up in the deep water, and she wasn't happy about it.
She did swim back to shore.
Katheryn has been swimming so great with her life jacket and flippers that I wanted to see what she could do without the support of the life jacket

She needed ALOT of encouragement

But she did it!
I never had any doubt!
That girl is like a fish!

Once she made it to the dock and she was confident that she could do this. She was off! Swimming all over the place.
I think next year we will be swimming across the lake together

Nick did lots and lots of walking with only his AFOs, but it would tire him out a bit. So he did resting too

At night we had marshmallows and told stories around the campfire

And we played cards
Katheryn learned how to play Rummy with Laura and I.
And she WON!

Of course she wanted to play with us the next day
(She may not want to admit it, but she is a lot like me)

Jamie and the kids had a build-your-own lightsaber project

After 4 days and 3 nights it was time to go.
I had to work again Tuesday night, so we got to have a quick dip in the beautiful lake first

No one wanted to get out

When we started packing the car, Rory was all ready to go

I wish we could have spent more time this year. It doesn't look like we will be back this summer
