A year in Review

Here is our 2015!

Welcome 2015!
January was cold and snowy, and we spent a lot of the time at the cottage

Aww Love these guys!

Katheryn lost her first tooth in March, and they kids enjoyed March break (including the teddy bear clinic)

Katheryn turned 7 in April (and celebrated the whole month). We celebrated Easter (on Katheryn's birthday) and were in the Easter Seals Telethon and showcased on the news
We also went on a trip to Florida and met princesses and ninja turtles

In May it was time for fun! spent a great long weekend at the cottage (with a quick visit home for a new baby)

The kids were sad to end school in June
And it was our 6th annual SWWR

In July Nick got his new braces!

Easter Seals Camp was in August! And we got our brand new puppy!

September was back to school, backyard fun and zoo fun!

October was a great month!
With Thanksgiving, a wedding, baptism and of course Halloween with an Angel and Cap!

In November, Nick turned 6! With a trip to Great Wolf Lodge. And Katheryn started karate!

December was all about fun!

2015 was a great year!

Walker-free time

Nickolas has been doing great with his walking. He wants to practice at least every day doing some independent stepping. We still need to remind him to get his balance in between steps, but he is still doing it.
We had to take 2 weeks off without the 'K' part of his braces because of 2 sores that weren't healing. And without the K he doesn't feel as stable (but he still wanted to try). But once we got them back on he was ready to get started again.
And then I thought...
What he really needs to help him get more stable in between his stepping is something he can hold on to. Like his crutches.
Nick was not very happy about this. He is afraid of his crutches and he says they make him fall. But now he has the ability to stand and remain standing and stepping without the crutches.
But of course his walker is easier for him
So we decided to have a walker-free Winter vacation.
It brought back memories of making Nick workout in his walker. And I told that to Nick. He used to cry and scream and not want to walk, and now he flies in his walker.
So now he has to learn and gain strength in his crutches. Because I know he can do it. I know he has the ability to walk with his crutches.
Nickolas was not very happy about it

But after a couple of days (and some falls and getting right back up) he was getting more comfortable using his crutches. He is still asking for his walker back, but there are places his crutches can go that his walker can't.

And after a week of walker-free days Nick is much more comfortable with his crutches. He is gaining confidence that he can do it!

We even duct-taped a cup to the side so that he can carry around toys or something.
And it opens up his options. When his walker can't fit, or when we have his wheelchair with us (like going downtown) and he wants to walk around, it gives him an option rather than crawl on the floor.

Will he be able to ditch the walker and walk only with crutches? I don't know. Probably not, but can he ditch crawling on the floor and walk with crutches? Definitely! (If and when he wants to)

Boxing Day

What? You mean we can't play with the big bag of wrapping paper and boxes?

Boxing day morning came a little bit late!

And the day was spent playing with their favorite toys and games
Marvel Monopoly was definitely a favorite (and the player most like The HULK gets to start first)

Dressing in our favorite clothes

Playing with our favorite toys (oh wait, that is Mommy's new toy!

And being strong in the force

Christmas Time!

Christmas time is here! Lots of family time, and kids dressed up and the camera comes out!
This is my favorite group of pictures to show what the kids think about that!

Eventually got some pictures of all of the girls (but Nick snuck in)

Soon it was ready for Santa.

And of course posing under the Christmas tree

The kids really wanted me to get a picture of them fighting under the Christmas tree!

Then it was Christmas Eve snuggles

 And story time

And pretty soon it was Christmas morning!
Some little boy (and girl) got spoiled!

All of their favorite toys all lined up!

Another Christmas dinner and some cousin pictures!

It was a great Christmas!
Lots of family fun, lots of cousins and dinners and good food.
My parents are right across the street from us, so travelling on Christmas day was super easy!

Visiting Santa

We decided to pick the kids up early from school one day and visit Santa.
Which turned out to be a really good idea, because there were 2 families in front of us!

The kids talked about what they were going to ask for.
Nick asked for a big Leo play set (all he has asked for) and Katheryn wanted the gold ring Shopkins (??)
They said they were going to sit with Santa by themselves and they each practiced their smiles

Even though we didn't have much of a wait the kids still got to play with some of the touch-pad games they had set up (this is different from how Oshawa was set up other years).

And then it was time to meet the big guy!

Our Christmas tree

It was time for our annual Christmas tree hunt! Where we go out to a tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree. This year it was Katheryn's turn to find a tree.
I thought that this year Nick would go in the wheelchair. There wasn't any snow on the ground so I thought we would be able to manage it. Last year Nick went in the wagon and he didn't like it.
But this year he wanted to go in the wagon.

Katheryn found the tree she wanted and stuck to it!
It was just as wide as it was tall!

After some renovations in our family room we had changed the corner that the tree goes in to.
The kids were very excited to start decorating and were off to a great start.
They fizzled out after about 30 minutes and then I go to finish it all off

They were really excited finding any of the decorations that they had made or that had their name on it from other years.
Rory wasn't really sure what to make of a tree in the house

I think that our tree with year is Perfect!

Christmas Party

We had our annual Ridding Family Christmas Party

The kids get to spend time with all of their cousins and run around on the dance floor

I didn't actually take that many pictures, but Katheryn watned pictures taken of her with these bows!

And looking really cute!

All of the kids were obsessed with this microphone (which was not plugged in)
And had to be encouraged to share

Everyone happy!
And a really cute Christmas photo
